Do You Need a Mobile App, or a Better Website?
An app is a big investment. Before you commit, it is worth asking whether your customers would actually open it — or whether a fast mobile website does the job.

Many business owners ask for a mobile app when what they really want is for customers to find and use their business easily on a phone. Those are not always the same thing.
A well-built mobile website is found through search, works on every device, needs nothing installed and is cheaper to build and maintain. For most businesses where customers visit occasionally, it is the right place to invest first.
An app starts to make sense when customers come back often — weekly or more. Ordering the same coffee, booking regular appointments or checking an account are habits an app can make faster.
Apps also unlock things a website struggles with: reliable push notifications, offline access, deeper use of the camera or location, and loyalty programmes that live on the home screen.
The costs go beyond the first build. Apps need updates for new phone operating systems, app store reviews and ongoing support, so budget for the years after launch, not just the launch itself.
A useful test: if your best customers would happily keep your app on their home screen next to the ones they use every day, it is worth building. If not, put that budget into a faster, clearer mobile website and revisit the idea as your repeat customer base grows.
